Welcome to Once Upon A Time Landscape & Design. This blog will follow me on my adventures in going back to school and learning all I can about gardening and design. This will also be the name of my business, when I’m ready to create gardens for other people.
I’ve always believed if you want something, there are four steps to making it happen. First, you wish for it. Think about exactly what you want, picture it in your mind, and then make a wish. Second, make a plan. A wish is a way of defining what you want in broad strokes and a plan helps fill in the details. Third, educate yourself as to what you will need to make this plan a reality. Fourth, it’s going to take a lot of hard work. All good things usually do.
So, why landscape design? I love to garden, but it’s more than that. I want to show people that they can have beautiful gardens without high maintenance or poisons, and that the best designs work with your natural habitat, not against it. Choose the plants that will do well in your area. Be honest about how much time you plan to spend maintaining your garden. Understand a garden that invites and supports hummingbirds and butterflies will also have spiders and beetles. Song birds need cover and food, to nest in your garden. And there are many helpful insects that will do a lot of the work for you, if you give them a place to live in your garden, too.
Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you decide to take a chance, make a wish and start an adventure of your own.
